By this point, my child’s ears were blocked and he had probably been deaf for many months. His speech had deteriorated and we had been threatened with grommets and surgery. (While some people do not consider grommet surgery a threat. That is how it felt to me.)

Then I found a brochure for a three day free homeopathy workshop run by Fran Sheffield. The workshop was absolutely amazing! I was left with a choice. Pay $3500 for grommet surgery which my GP (who happened to be a Senior Lecturer at the University of Newcastle Faculty of Medicine at the time) had told me will not fix the underlying issue but will help with my son’s speech and development or book an appointment with a “homeopath” for $90. With my GP’s blessing I booked two appointments for my son, one with the Ear, Nose and Throat Specialist and one with “the homeopath”.

The appointment with “the homeopath” was first and the results from the first remedy prescribed for my son was amazing. When he woke up the next morning, my previously virtually deaf son started singing happy birthday to himself. It sounded like this.

“Appi eth ay oo ouu………………… 

Appi eth ay oo ……….

Happi eth ay to ouu…..

Happi Beth ay to you…

Happy Birth ay to you. 

Happy BIrthday to you.”

I will always remember lying in bed listening to my son hear and correct his own words. I nearly cried with joy!

Our appointment with the Ears, Nose and Throat specialist was a few days later. The specialist looked in my sons ears and said, he could see bubbles in the ear canal. Which means my son can hear and no longer needed the grommet surgery at this point in time. But, he also said the problems will come back. And, he will need to see us next winter.

The ear problems never returned. But, I had become hooked on homeopathy. I wanted to know everything there was to know about it. How did it work? Why did it work? How is it possible? Is it magic or science? I wanted to know everything!!!

This is how homeopathy became my private obsession. For the next fifteen years I continued to run the frugal community SimpleSavings.com.au while learning all I could about homeopathy and healing. But, I eventually hit a blank wall. There were problems I had no idea how to solve. In a hunt for more skills I started a four year Advanced Diploma in Homeopathy in the UK. At the moment, I am in the middle of completing supervised clinic.
